Were super excited to have Laura Carr play her reimagined take on the discography of Joni Mitchell

Laura Carr grew up at a time when Joni Mitchell was already a household name. Songs like Big Yellow Taxi and Both Sides Now had become standards for folk musicians. Over the years, Laura found herself drawn deeper into Joni’s music and the way her poetic lyrics, unusual chords and distinctive musical style came together.

More than 50 years later, Joni Mitchell’s music still feels fresh. It continues to connect with audiences of all ages.

Laura is a singer-songwriter herself. She began arranging Joni Mitchell’s music for octave mandolin, an instrument whose sound works naturally with the warmth and character of Joni’s original dulcimer arrangements. Recreating the feel of these songs through the mandolin has been a rewarding experience and a chance to explore the unusual chord structures that make Joni’s music so distinctive.

Laura’s voice has often been compared to singers from the same generation, including Joan Baez, Sandy Denny and Joni Mitchell. Performing this music gives her the chance to explore the songs and arrangements that have influenced her, while bringing her own interpretation to Joni Mitchell’s work.
