Love Tutorial

LoveTutorial was born in a New Cross flat, where strangers Flynn Armstrong and Joseph Park bonded over a shared nostalgia for music made before they were born — and in places they’d never been.Within a week of meeting, they’d formed what would become the coolest band that ever existed: Love Tutorial.

Flynn had been experimenting with pop songwriting and plunderphonics under his solo project Python, but he was itching to move toward something less esoteric.Meanwhile, Joseph, fresh out of Goldsmiths, had been quietly assembling a pool of talented musicians for his improvisational collective Mori-Oto. After some early lineup changes, Love Tutorial eventually settled as a five-piece band.
The idea was to create an indie pop group that was relentlessly fun but self-aware — a band inspired by the sophistipop acts of the ’80s who blurred the lines between irony and sincerity. The second single, “Forseeable Future”, leans further into pop and carries an almost comically sincere anti-nihilism — something you might associate with indie folk artists like The Microphones. The remaining tracks, “Everything I Ever Wanted” and “Peices of you”, dive into the EP’s themes of existentialism and capitalism, all while painting a vivid emotional landscape. Listening feels like being at a party in London with all your friends, unable to articulate why you feel so empty.
Audience members often say they don’t know whether to laugh or cry at a Love Tutorial show. Whether it’s the bittersweet melancholy or the comedic angst, one thing’s certain: this EP is sure to leave you a little confused.
